CONTRIBUTION GUIDELINES

Thank You for Volunteering!
We are so grateful that you are willing to share your experience, strength and hope with us on the topic of self-care.

Tradition 5 states, "Each Al-Anon Family Group has but one purpose: to help families of alcoholics." Let's keep this tradition at the center of our sharing and preparing.

Based on Area 9's research regarding what to put in a raffle basket, h
ere are a few suggested guidelines to keep our day simple, serene, and rooted in our Al-Anon principles.

What To Include in Your Workshop, Exhibit, and Raffle Baskets
Please include your self-care habits and how they help your Al-anon recovery. If possible, please consider sharing your favorite slogan or CAL reading.

If you are using items in your workshops, exhibits or raffle baskets, it is suggested that these items relate in some way to our spiritual principles.” Here are some ideas:
  • Conference approved literature and subscriptions to The Forum.
  • “Donated products of the creative efforts of individual members are suggested.”

Other appropriate items celebrate creativity. “Creativity is a powerful way to celebrate who we are.” Appropriate items develop playfulness, fun or a sense of humor.
  • “An important part of the serious business of recovery involves recognizing our need to have fun-to take a trip, fly a kite, attend a concert, make noise, race down the street or blow bubbles.” Research from How Al-ANON WORKS for Families & Friends of Alcoholics Pgs 282, 284,288
  • A blossoming plant is an appropriate item. “Like that azalea, my recovery in Al-Anon is alive.” I am a beautiful flower,” “I cannot rush my own blossoming.”
  • A journal is an appropriate item. “The beauty of your writing extends beyond the written word.”
  • Food is appropriate in a raffle basket. “A man offered the acronym HALT. I heard if I found myself feeling too Hungry, angry lonely or tired, it would be a good idea to drop everything else and take care of that primary need right away.” Research from One Day at a Time pg. 352
  • A blackboard (symbolically) is an appropriate item. “I pray that I may start each new day with a clean blackboard and write upon it only what is good for me.”

What to Exclude from Your Workshops, Exhibits, and Raffle Baskets
As our suggested Al-Anon preamble says, "Al-anon is not allied with any sect, denomination, political entity, organization, or institution;...neither endorses nor opposes any cause." Based on this, we ask you to please exclude:
  • Religious items
  • Political items
  • Items with outside advertising
  • Items expressing a social cause
  • Outside literature
  • Business cards

Thank you again for sharing your ESH with us. Please feel free to email our Self-Care Health Fair Committee chair person with any questions.
