Volunteers Needed to lead new Meetings on college campuses.

We are starting off the New Year with a request for volunteers to run student Al-Anon meetings at USF Sarasota Manatee, New College, Ringling, and Manatee Technical College!
​

The commitment would be once a month, and ideally we would schedule two Al-Anon members for each meeting.  Please share this information with your groups.  Thank you so much! For more info contact Chair at [email protected]

PUBLIC OUTREACH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Public/Media/Radio:
  • Air more PSAs
    • Currently airing on ABC-7 and WSLR Radio
    • Need: Contacts at local radio & TV stations for our committee to approach

Higher Education: Closed Student Meetings
  • New College:
    • Running every Tuesday from 6:30pm-7:30pm since September 17th – growing, very well received
    • Need: (6) more volunteers to Co-Chair 1x/month & (1) Literature Chair responsible for ordering materials as needed
  •  USF Manatee (New):
    • New student meeting starts Feb. 4th every Tuesday from 12pm-1pm
  • Manatee Technical College (Requested by Dean):
    • (1) volunteer to work with Dean to get meeting going  – number of volunteers needed will depend on frequency of meeting
  •  Ringling (Proposed)
    • (1) volunteer to work with Ringling student/Al-Anon member to get meeting going and to recruit the volunteers to co-chair meetings as needed
 
Institutions: First Step Addiction Recovery Centers
  • First Step “Baby Steps” meeting for mothers in recovery and who have young children
    • Running 3 years strong and recognized in 2019 by the Sarasota Observer for the success of this program and its impact.
    • When: Saturdays 7:30pm-8:30pm
  •  First Step meeting for patients in recovery who also qualify for Al-Anon
    • Running 1 year strong and recognized by as one of the best meetings offered at First Step
    • Need: (6) volunteers to Co-Chair
    • When: Every 4th Thursday of the month from 5:30pm-6:30pm
  • First Step “Family & Friends” meeting of recovery patients (requested)
    • Need: 6 more of (8) volunteers to Co-Chair 1x/month
    • When: Every Saturday from 2pm-3pm

Presenting Al-Anon in Cooperation with AA:
  • Need: Speakers to co-present with AA about the Al-Anon program (5 - 30 minutes to audiences of 4-100) & (1) Literature Chair responsible for ordering literature and assembling info packets
  • When: All times of day throughout the year to organizations like USF, SCTI, SPARCC, SCC, Coalition for Safe Children

PLEASE NOTE: All volunteers will be trained in each of these areas until they feel comfortable chairing/co-chairing
